The 4th Avenue Clinic is centred in the heart of Alexandra, Johannesburgs oldest township, found adjacent to the women's hostel. The clinic served to be the first of a new typology to be built in Alex, paving the way for healthcare access in previously underserved communities. The clinic is also a formalisation of an existing compound and consolidation of several sites to for the new clinic courtyard designed to be safe and defensive while opening up to the community it serves.
