Ntsika Architects

A Johannesburg practice founded by Nadia Tromp, working at the intersection of research, social justice and material innovation to make architecture that belongs to its people and place.

( Philosophy )

( Philosophy )

We believe architecture has a far greater role to play. A co-creative practice that confronts spatial injustice.

Through research and material innovation, we make work that is lo-fab, cutting edge, and thought-provoking. Every project begins with the people and communities it will serve, not with a form.

The result is architecture rooted in place, durable, daylight-filled, and grounded in the everyday realities of South African life.

( Nadia Tromp, Founder )

Led by conviction, guided by community.

Nadia Tromp founded Ntsika Architects to prove that rigorous, award-winning design and social purpose can be one and the same. Her work has been recognised internationally for advancing public architecture across South Africa.

She leads the studio with a simple principle; “I am because we are.”

( Our Story )

From a founding belief into a research-led public practice.

01

Origins

Founded by architect Nadia Tromp, Ntsika Architects emerged from a belief that architecture should improve everyday life and contribute positively to society. From its inception, the practice sought to combine design excellence with social responsibility, creating buildings and public spaces that are humane, accessible and responsive to their context.

02

Early Practice

The studio’s early work centered on community projects, sustainable design and urban regeneration, establishing a reputation for thoughtful public architecture and collaborative design processes. These formative years laid the foundation for a practice that viewed architecture as both a creative discipline and a catalyst for positive change.

03

Today

Building on these foundations, Ntsika Architects has evolved into a multidisciplinary, research-led practice delivering complex civic, institutional and public infrastructure projects across South Africa. While the scale and diversity of its work have expanded, its founding commitment to integrity, innovation and socially responsive design remains unchanged.

04

Studio Culture

A multidisciplinary, research-led studio where integrity, innovation and socially responsive design guide daily practice. As the scale and diversity of our work expands, our founding commitment to people and place remains unchanged.
